*Warning to residents* Residents are urged to be aware of a possible scam involving a bogus council letter found circulating on the Sunshine Coast. An unaddressed letter (with a fictitious business name) was hand delivered to letterboxes in Malkana Crescent, Buddina today by two young teenage girls: “On behalf the city council, I would like to ask you a few questions about your household. 1. Are all the entrances to your household secure if someone tries to break in? 2. Do you have insurance if your house is by any chance robbed? 3. Is your house under warranty if it is flooded? 4. Are your children in a safe environment? If you go with Rudders Warrant Insurance (RWI) you will not have to worry about any of these common threats to your environment but you will be able to live your life in your current house hassle free. Please call one of number (sic) now and save up to $3000 every year in breakage costs (numbers provided) Hurray! Offer only available to the first 20 callers during the holidays. So call RWI now.” Council does not instruct insurance providers to quote for household insurance. You can report a scam to SCAMwatch (the Australian Competition and Consumer Commission) by calling 1300 795 995 or visit: scamwatch.gov.au.
