My name is Warren Sambow Boucher. I am an Ojibway from the Land of Naanabijou (Sleeping Giant) Home of Anemki Wajuh Thunder Mountain. Fort William First Nation. In the past two and a half years that I have been travelling throughout Turtle islands raising awareness of the threat to Anemki Wajuh and Loch Lomond watershed area from the Big Thunder Wind Farm I have also been raising awareness of the Sacredness of not only Anemki Wajuh also Lake Nipigon , Thunder Cape and Naanabijou The Sleeping Giant. I have met with many Grandmothers and Grandfathers as children that recollect travelling to this area with thier parents for the Mission Pow Wow some knowing of the Sacredness of this area, others not understanding why it was so important for thier Parents to make sure they at least attended Mission Pow Wow if that is the only Pow wow they attended all year. I am in particularly greatful for all that shared with me of thier memories many have added to my knowledge. Lady Walking Eagle I do not know how to spell it in your languaue or mine so I will not disrespect you I say Chie Miigwetch for sharing your memory of the journey your father and uncles made to this area. I share this Storey at every opportunity as I will share it now This Ladys Father and Uncles would bring thier families here to Sleeping Giant set up camp and travell by canoe and land to the point of Naanabijou and put thier medicines down. They would then travell to Lake Nipigon put thier medicines down take water from the lake and bring it with them. They would then collect thier families and come to Mission Pow Wow and again put thier medicines down along with the water from Lake Nipigon. I was told how women and men would pick medicines from this area and bring them back home with them. The most important Teaching I have learned of this area and Naanabijou, in my travells, is the reason why Naanabijou rest out in the bay. It is a reminder to all Anishnabec of the Sacredness of this area and our responsibilities to protect that Sacredness. Miigwetch for the opportunity to share some of my travells and the knowledge I gain along my journey. I will continue to reach out and share what I know of this area and the threat Big Thunder Wind Farm represents to all Anishnabec. It is my hope that I will be welcomed in your communities to continue with my responsibility as an Ojibway of this area in protecting our way of life. It is important that we as Anishnabae and I see it as my duty as an Ojibway of this area to continue to bring awareness of the Sacredness of this area to as many communities as possible. This way of life was taken from me when I was a child. Taken from my mother and placed in St. Josephs School for Boys Government school run by Chatholics. As a result what I endured in the 5 1/2 years I was there I struggled in addictions for 45 years. These last 4 years have been very rewarding for me once I re-embraced this good way of life called Spirituality. My journey has led me back home to continue my education in our ways. I want to learn about the medicine in thier natural habitat about the significance of each medicine in our territory. I want to be able to know where these medicines are located and record thier areas for others to be able to access which means extentisve travell around the lake and within our taditional territory. I am not alone, there are 27 other individuals that want the same knowledge and teaching to enhance thier own Spiritual Journeys. We come to learn and share of each others knowledge and strengths and at the same time of our learning we will also be fullfilling our duties as Anishnabae and protect Loch Lomond and Anemki Wajuh and our own Spiritualiy. In the next two months I will be travelling to as many communities as possible to continue my awareness campaign and more importantly I will be seeking Knowledgeable Elders that know of the different medicines we use and are willing to come and live in our camp and teach us and guide us...
