Warren Zevon (January 24, 1947 - September 7, 2003) If you ask most people what Warren Zevon means to them they will likely reply Werewolves of London his big chart success and another of those songs that refuses to go away. He was a lot more successful than just a one hit wonder and worked with or wrote for some of the biggest names in music for example when the Everly Brothers split he was to record with both Don and Phil on their solo albums, Linda Ronstadt benefited from his writing talents recording Poor Poor Pitiful Me which gave her chart success both in the US and Canada. Zevon had a number of songs recorded in movie and TV soundtracks Werewolves of London of course being the runaway favourite. In 2002 he was taken ill and diagnosed with the cancer which would end his life he was able to make a final appearance on his friend David Lettermans Late Show and to complete his final album The Wind which was released on 26th August. Though he never lived to see them his last album received a gold disc for sales by the December and two Grammy Awards . On the album he recorded a cover of Knockin on Heavens Door accompanied by a few good friends, poignant under the circumstances and I feel the best cover of the song recorded. DW.
