Was Jesus political? How many have heard this said, “Christianity is spiritual, not political? I dont believe this thought at all. I believe Jesus came to “to proclaim radical economic, social, and political change. What people reject is the notion that Jesus was a political revolutionary, that he not only sought to address the SYMPTOMS of the people’s suffering, but also—and here’s the rub—that he sought to alleviate the SYSTEMATIC causes of their suffering. Consider the “Lord’s Prayer,” in which Jesus instructs his disciples that whenever they pray, their first concern should be that Caesar’s unjust governance and unjust will be replaced “by the just governance and the just will of God (“thy kingdom come, thy will be done”)“And to make sure that these instructions were not misunderstood , Jesus carefully added, “on earth as in heaven.” To say this was treason! Under the Roman law punishable by death! Yes Jesus was political. He was executed for it.
