Was at this kopi Tiam near Sungei Road having their famous laksa. Went to the drink stall to order my drink when I heard the kopi Kia (an aged but swift moving guy) sing a short verse, (probably a line from some Chinese song), and it was like Ee Ker ren de zi muok, which I understand as A solitary persons loneliness, sounded ok to me ... until a girl behind the counter (there were 3 of them) repeated the same words in Hokkien questioningly, there was a pause, then all 3 started laughing. I walked away with my drinks wondering whats the joke. Then I got it - the problem with words spoken in different language/dialects! Understand?😝😁
