Was awakened this morning by the long awaited follow up call from the doctors office about my echocardiogram last week. Seems I was right in thinking that something was wrong and the cause of my lightheaded spells was something other than I hadnt ate yet. Diagnosis: Mild Mitral Valve Regurgitation AND Left Atrial Enlargement. I was pretty sure there was problems with the valve because of the clicks I heard during test but had no clue my heart was enlarged. Been doing my research on my own since all they said was its something they will just keep an eye on and monitior yearly at my PCP. I think Id rather be referred to a cardiologist since I have more going on like the COPD thing that has been wrote on my charts before because of my shitty lung function. If it all gets worse I could possibly die of heart failure or stroke since Im seriously at risk for both that is why Im surprised they didnt even tell me to restrict salt or limit stress or even to exercise. They told me nothing of what I should do or not do other than if it gets worse come back. Previous heart tests over the last few years have showed no problems so dont really think that obesity has caused the mitral valve problem and I dont really have a high BP problem because I take a bp med everyday for my migraines anyways so even if I had it its under control and normal. The other cause of a sudden mitral problem would be a heart attack and who knows if I had one a few weeks ago because by the time they did the echo it could only tell if any damage was done to heart. They didnt do any EKG in the first office visit after my spells and they certainly didnt do the blood work to show the enzyme levels that show if youve had an MI, although they did gobs of others blood tests that all came back normal. I guess I just wonder if diet and exercise can fix me or if I really do need meds to prevent the unspeakable outcomes. Only time will tell I guess since they are just going to watch and wait... As soon as I get over being sick I am going to hit the gym again and see if the gym will fix me :)
