Was carrying 3 heavy bags and went across the island to meet a client in boon lay. On an empty bus i took a seat on the first seat where the row is meant for the needy.... was looking at my email and this old man w a walking stick came up and before i could see him, he banged his walking stick SUPER LOUDLY on the metal poles and seats scolding me for not giving up my seat and when i moved a seat down he shouted loudly that he needs 2 seats, 1 for his wife. Honestly, i got a rude shock. For the record, i always give up my seat even if it is not the reserved seat. Tried explaining myself only to get even more verbal abuse and banging of stick from the man. His wife just sat stone-faced and silent. The bus uncle then told me to not bother explaining cos it is a daily occurence and that every driver is scared of him. It dawned on me in that moment, that this man is not the cause. He is the effect. The effect that society has produced. He shouted at me repeatedly for not giving up my seat and for using my phone therefore failing to see him. It was crystal clear in that moment. He must have been neglected, cast aside, perhaps sometimes knowingly or unknowingly. Most of all, i knew that it is the people with most anger and pain who needs the most to be loved. I said: Uncle, I love you.. I love you very much. He stopped scolding me. I dont think anyone told him they loved him recently. Sometimes, the world just needs a little bit more love, a little more empathy and a little bit more care. I was honestly quite angry at first but i bit it back and learnt a precious lesson. I am really sorry that as our world n technology progress, many others who are not in our circle and world are cast aside and left behind.
