Was debating if I should share an unpleasant experience of mine when I first shared this link earlier and decided not to. But since a FB friend from Florida was curious as to why everyone who is states away want to overturn a jury verdict, I might as well share my story. I can’t answer for everyone but I can give my personal reason. Back in May I dropped off a friend of ours at the airport around midnight. I get home around 12:30 or so and parked down the street. I stay in the car for about 10 mins as I was chatting with someone on FB. I notice a strange man staring at me a few feet from my car. Was a bit creepy but I thought, ok….maybe he just thinks I’m someone else. So I go on chatting on my phone on FB as I see him walk away. A few minutes later he comes back, right in front of my car and just stares at me again. At this point, I really started getting paranoid. Shortly after, the man shouts at me asking me what I’m doing in his neighborhood so late in the evening. I told him I lived there and it was my neighborhood as well and he starts to question me, asking me where exactly I live and for how long I’ve been living there. My response was it was none of his business and he needs to leave me alone. He goes to my car door and tries to open it and yells at me to get out. I get on my phone and I call the cops and warned him that I called them because he was harassing me. His response was that he had every right to harass me because it was his duty to protect his neighborhood. I tell him again that I’ve called the cops and that he needs to walk away. He yells at me again saying I’m acting suspicious. A few minutes later he finally leaves and I watch him walk inside his house. About 6 police cars get there shortly after he leaves. I tell them what happened and they go to the man’s house to question him. They said he seems to just really be delusional and they just laugh it all off and tell me that I’m safe to go home. So to answer the question, other than the fact that I really do feel an injustice was made and that as a mother I imagine that something tragic like this can happen to my son who is part black, I personally experienced something fairly similar to the case. This is why someone states away wants to overturn a jury verdict. Eric LaCruze
