Was delighted to be able to get along to training this evening as an observer and, along with another former has-been in Geoff Turner, sit at the back of the nets and take in the plethora of new talent. Of the approx 30 in attendance this evening, at least half were new Falcons and many I was seeing with bat and ball in hand for the first time. Without noting all, both Jacob and Aaron Austin impressed me as did Harry Chalal. Furthermore, aside from skill sets, I was drawn to the natural leadership qualities of Glenn Johnstone and Graeme Bennett in amongst a young playing group. As new players, it can be hard to excerpt influence and you cannot teach leadership, you are born with it - both Glenn and Graeme demonstrated leadership that bodes well for the future. There certainly has been a tremendous influx, in quantum, of young playing talent and the average age this evening couldnt have been much over 21 which leads to fit, athletic, dynamic and passionate cricketers looking to improve. Full credit to Mitch J and Adam Yates for running a tight ship with structures and disciplines and both Geoff and I, at different times, were enormously impressed with what we saw. Well done guys.
