Was interacting with Ex IAS officer E A S Sarma, a very rare breed of bureaucrat who hits the ground and work with people both during the service and after retirement. He is right now working tirelessly at this age going home to home to distributing Solar Lamps to the slum dwellers & doing his part for HudHud cyclone rehabilitation efforts at Vishakapatnam. At NRI Samay we asked him - sir going home to home is very intense, very risky and your inspiring effort is contagious. He told us - Forget about me, but these slum dwellers are living in total dark as of today. People are having issues with defecation, especially for women. People are vulnerable to snake bites (atleast 25 cases that he heard of) and just recently a huge python was caught by the dwellers. Many kids are living in fear of snakes in the night time. He mentioned having a lamp is very very important for these families to live without fear, feeling safe and these slum dwellers are in thousands. The picture that you see was sent to us by Ex IAS officer, EAS Sarma garu himself. At NRI Samay, we decided to work with E A S Sarma garu in taking this effort forward and for the first time we are going for a realistic, transparent and efficient fund raiser. Sarma garu would be sending all the pictures at regular basis, every lamp that would be distributed will be marked with a serial number for tracking and we will try to capture as many details are possible in the process. A $2.5 to light up one family with a Solar lamp! What ever little bit you could do counts! nrisamay/donate
