Was just rewinding my day, yesterday. Talked to a Persian friend - TopicsExpress

Was just rewinding my day, yesterday. Talked to a Persian friend on the phone in the morning, hung out with an Albanian buddy whom used to work for me, helped my Albanian bud work on his new house with a Ecuadorian friend of ours, and when I got home, my Mexican neighbor brought over a couple beers and we exchanged broken English and Spanish through several more beers and shots. My point: Immigration is a good thing, its part of whats made us what we are, a diverse nation, but It doesnt have the value, if just everyone can walk across the border and become an Amerian citizen with no strings attached. Its not respectful to the folks that have died or put their lives on the line for us. Ive found that most folks from other places want the same things we do, safety, food on the table and a better life than they had. We have a process that has worked for alot of years, its not amnesty, its education, the folks that get naturalized have to learn what it means to be an American, history and how the political system and government works. Ive personally been to, two naturalizations for friends, its almost a religious experiece, alot of wet eyes there, including mine. Can we take a deep breath and remember why we did certain things in the past? Cause it was fair for all involved. Steve Howell
