Was listening to KET television a couple hours ago and caught a small segment on Woody Guthrie. He was a singer song writer long time ago. Somewhere along the line he was working for some guys and they wanted him to sing some songs they had written and he didn’t like the songs so he refused to sing them and also he had written some songs they in turn didn’t like. I think this was in the 30’s, when money was tight, I don’t know. He was receiving a good salary for back then. But he disagreed with his bosses so he quit and moved his family. But what struck me was the statement he made when he gave up his lucrative job and moved his family elsewhere. The documentary on KET said Guthrie thought once you started working for money, you started having a tendency to do what money wanted you to do instead of what truth wanted you to do. I thought amen and hallelujah didn’t he strike the nail on the head. Wonder if any of the politicians, (or anyone else for that matter), who have sold themselves out for the love of comfort and ease, and money, and status, and power, and what their definition of success is, ever look at themselves deep in their heart, and feel ashamed of their choices. Or do they gloat in it. Or do they just rationalize it away as just the way the world is and just the price of getting by in this world.
