Was ordering a late night egg nog latte @ Starbucks this evening, when one of the employees began inventorying the cooler full of sandwiches, salads, etc... and began tossing at least 20 sandwiches into the trash can. I understand this is necessary due to expiration dates, but I gave it a try and asked the rhetorical question you wouldnt be able to give any of those away, would you? The expected no came quickly with a well-rehearsed explanation, then I stated what an amazing waste it was and that I passed at least 12 homeless people, within the last couple of blocks, who would have relished them and being that its below freezing, it makes even more sense. I suggested she should at least be a tad more clandestine in her trashing and do this out of sight of the customers. After I left, of course, I thought to myself...all that food she had just thrown out was still available to the public. Hmmmm - theres got to be a better way.
