Was reading a thread on a fellow VAs post about the inconsistency of guest treatment at cons. Like, bigger draws get more attention and amenities while the lesser known guests are more of an afterthought. Some guests at some cons get advertised alongside the more established names but meanwhile, have to pay for their own travel/room and board, etc because the budget is blown. Now, I do realize budgets are always a consideration, but to that I say: PLAN better. If you staff a con, please encourage your team to treat ALL guests alike. Cosplayers, web celebs, musicians, any sort of talent or industry regardless of pro or amateur or how long their resume is. There shouldnt be different levels of guests. Things like the big cartoon voice actors get taken to the steak house while the lesser known peeps go to McDonalds needs to stop happening. This doesnt happen at all cons, so dont think Im going on a witch hunt. However, stories of crappy guest treatment are becoming more common. Its a huge honor to be asked to be a guest at a convention. That wonderful experience should be the same for all who get that honor. Please pass this along.
