Was so shocked, again, to read another article in support of Gentrification in Charleston (Ashley Shores Community). Not sure if youve ever heard of Charleston Thug Life, but they have no heart. Please read this, if you care...I would be very interested in what your thoughts are. My response to Charleston Thug Lifes post: First, I will say I find it interesting that your site is not transparent as far as allowing the community at large to comment without bias from yourself - displaying emails as hate mail, when they were clearly just as appalled as myself. This makes the site feel very one dimensional and sad as you are missing the bigger picture. It is not about finding criminals and capturing them, but offering support and hope and actually fixing this broken system. These people need to know they are more than what they were raised up around or that, yes, they can be something other than a criminal. They need HOPE. They are human beings, with real life stories, hardships we most likely have never experienced. We know that the prison system just does not work for those committing poverty-related crimes, such as drug charges and theft - it makes people identify themselves as criminals and entraps them in this role, with no love, only further oppression. Once they have done their time, there should be forgiveness and they should be given an opportunity to change, so that you wouldnt have to have a site like this. Where is the concern for rehabilitation that would offer any hope for compassion & humanity? These people are lost and need help. I truly believe that if whomever runs this site could focus more on this and offering hope, rather than hate, everyone would be better off. That is from deep in my heart... Concerning the Ashley Shores community: This is clearly another case of gentrification - pushing aside human beings that are perceived as in the way of filling the pockets of more rich white folks. Will any of the proceeds go back to that community? I highly doubt this. Instead of fixing the real problem - POVERTY and offering HOPE to these people, theyve been knocked down, yet again. Vicious cycle!! These people were given 30 days to leave. They were not all criminals and the end game was to sell the property for Commerce, not to help the community - the children living there, the families. What about those people?? How can you judge and classify everyone as a drug dealer and some menace to society without walking a mile in their shoes or knowing those families? They already had so much to deal with, but to have to read your* actual hate mail, rather than offering love and support is mind-boggling and was very unexpected when I reached this site. It would have been nice to have a supportive article for those who have for so long, through so many generations, been OPPRESSED. Wow...my heart hurts for this strange back and forth - displaying a response as hate mail, when the article itself was HATE - something that will, ironically, oppress the one filled with this...you will feel much better, I promise, if you could develop true compassion. I hope so much that this happens for yourself and for the world. This is a collective effort. We should all be bringing each other up, not down. That is what will matter when all else has decayed! All the Very Best to You & Yours, Raven charlestonthuglife.net/2014/06/07/ashley-shores-2/ Charleston Thug Life
