Was the head of the city’s taxi program forced into retirement - TopicsExpress

Was the head of the city’s taxi program forced into retirement because she challenged Uber’s dealing with the mayor’s office to privatize disabled transport services? The report here is a true inside look at Ed Lee’s romance with the “sharing economy” at the expense of the most vulnerable and despite the record of our city’s own programs. The mayor, as always, is never found to be quoted but his press secretary doesn’t hesitate to say some discussions continue and then to throw the city’s program under the proverbial and in this case literal bus in favor of Uber. Oh, and one other thing: they are talking only to Uber, and not to Lyft or others. Guess having Uber paying some of the cost for Mayor Lee’s trip to China and Korea in October 2013 paid off in the pay-to-play politics of City Hall. Just a few months after putting coins in the City Hall slot machine, Uber was writing to the mayor’s office asking who could meet with them about taking over the paratransit program. And a few months after that, the head of the program itself was out the door. (good work, Joe Fitz!)
