Was there a time in this country when one needed to have some - TopicsExpress

Was there a time in this country when one needed to have some recognized level of expertise or experience before he or she was on TV opining on issues of global importance? Or did I dream this? Forget Walter Cronkite or Dan Rather. I am trying to imagine even the local newspersons of my youth bringing on someone like Ducky McBigotron to discuss international terrorism. Roy Mitchell? Carolyn Long? Dave Woodman? Steve Barnes sure as hell wouldnt have done it. Even the weatherman who used to draw Gusty would have balked at something like this. DeWayne Graham himself might have thought twice. In all seriousness, though: when I watch the news, I am looking to be informed on the issues by people who know more than I know about that subject. If youre bringing on some dude only famous for facial hair, then I will probably leave the program being dumber than when the program began. Please, newspeople, I implore you. When it comes to the issues of the day, I dont want to hear from duck dudes, Ted Nugent, Jessica Simpson, or entertainers. Bring on some experts and let me make up my mind based on hearing both sides--not on whether or not some goofball manages to spit out some homespun-sounding ignorance. Thanks, Glen
