Was there an invisible Republican hand behind the Steve Scalise apocalypse? Was it a GOP congressional colleague who wanted to eliminate a rival for Speaker? Or was it another shot in an ever-widening GOP civil war in Louisiana? Scalise was given credit/blame for saving Eric Skrmetta from certain defeat in a bitter PSC race with Republican Forest Bradley Wright. While Skrmetta supporters attacked Wrights Republican credentials, some real Republicans did in fact support Wright. Were they aware of Scalises appearance before EURO in 2002 and did they retaliate for Scalises interference in the PSC race? Was saving Skrmetta worth losing the Speakership? Certainly not- Scalise may in fact be the biggest loser of 2014.
