Was there another musician and composer before the public in the - TopicsExpress

Was there another musician and composer before the public in the 19th c. more reviled and misunderstood than César-Auguste-Jean-Guillaume-Hubert Franck (10 December 1822 – 8 November 1890)? His close circle of pupils certainly knew he was a genius, yet his music incurred open hostility in Paris. At the first performance of Francks Piano Quintet, the pianist and dedicatee Saint-Saëns concluded the work by slamming the score on the piano and storming off the stage, without acknowledging the composer. He was offended by the volcanic emotion of the music, perhaps even more so because he knew that it expressed the married composers lust for a pretty student. Well, Francks wife didnt care for her husbands music all that much herself-too sensual, it was. On the night of the premier performance of his only symphony, she decided to stay home and read a book. She, of course, already knew what was coming; another disastrous reception with audience and critics alike-What?, an English horn solo in a French symphony? Seriously, Im not kidding. Here are a couple of live performances. First up, one of the very greatest pianists performing today, followed by a classic recording of the work known in the business as the Frank Sinatra.
