Was watching a documentary about Robert De Niro Senior. He had difficulty with the Art worlds institutions, which I can understand. It was revealing, not so much as to his talent, as to the pitfalls of thinking of ones work belonging to History. A Buddhist mildly chastised me recently for looking to my Legacy by asking why I think my work should be preserved if there is nothing preserved of Jesus or Buddha. But for me its not about greatness. MY message is how universal our tap-able gifts are. One just has to awaken to them. I am a frustrated teacher of Art. More specifically a teacher of how to see... There is no great need to plop down a live model or reference a photograph. If you can recognize a face of someone you know, you can recognize when theres a face in your mind...working from an unfocused blur and simply emphasizing what you see....and using Chiaroscuro: Leonardos greatest trick. ...and LESS IS MORE...
