Was watching the film of the great Cincinnati ace, Jim Maloneys - TopicsExpress

Was watching the film of the great Cincinnati ace, Jim Maloneys ten-inning no-hitter against the Cubs at Wrigley Field, August 19, 1965. It was 0-0 after nine innings, with both starting pitchers working assiduously. It would have never occurred to either manager to take the pitchers out. If you were getting batters out, you stayed in the game. Leo Cardeñas hit a homerun for Cincy in the top of the tenth, giving them a 1-0 lead. And, boy, did Maloney shake his hand as he crossed home. (Maloney was next to bat). Maloney threw 187 pitches, and wound up completing the 10-inning no-hitter for the Reds! And Jackson threw 173 pitches for the Cubs in a ten-inning losing effort. These coddled kids who pitch today arent worthy even to carry Jim Maloneys luggage --- but they take their multi-million dollar paychecks and forget about giving any real effort for the fans who pay their salaries. Sad. When. It. Was. A. Game.
