Was wondering how is it that all European languages other than Greek and Russian use almost the same script, except for some accent marks. But the question intensified upon encountering strange sounds in Swedish (Svenska) such as "sj", "hj", "fj", "sjk", "lvsj" etc; indirectly suggesting that the Roman/Latin alphabet is inadequate to represent the sounds in Svenska. A conjecture is that somehow the script was "forced" upon the language along with the coming of Christianity to Sweden (Sverige) in the 11th century. Inscriptions on Rune stones of the Viking era have quite different symbols. Feel concerned that learning Svesnka, will "confuse" my English spelling, while such a thought never came to me while learning another Indian language.
