Was wondering if someone can help me. Its probably a dumb question but its driving me crazy trying to figure it out, lol! This has to do with FamilyTrees My Origins classifications. I was given 5% Jewish Diaspora which surprised me. I looked at the description Jewish Ashkenazi and noted that there appears to be a Middle Eastern signature. But wouldnt that just apply to men? As far as I know there is no such signature for women. Now my genealogy is fairly distinct and traced back to the 1600s on my paternal side (French Cdn). I know there are some Iberians in my genealogy, probably some Shephardi too....and I know dna testing isnt that popular in Spain and illegal in France so there no population base, Im wondering if I just got lumped into the Jewish Diaspora region when I should have been shown Iberian. Nothing shows up for me in Iberia or Mediterranean. Or, could it mean that have a ancestor who lived in the Jewish Diaspora region but was not Jewish. Or, that I do indeed have some Ashkenazi ancestors that I just dont know about. Mind you, theyd have to be very far back in time, pre-1600 I would think. But I have 5 percent. All my matches (except 1) on MyOrigins have no Jewish Diaspora classification, and the one who does has 7 percent. Thanks very much.
