Washington Bureau WASHINGTON — Former Cleveland congressman Dennis Kucinich accused the United States of working “covertly behind the scenes with the” CIA, the United States Agency for International Development and the National Endowment for Democracy “to stir up trouble” during the past two months against the former Ukraine government of President Viktor Yanukovych, complaining that “Neo Nazis” now control the new Ukraine government. In an appearance Tuesday night on Fox News’ “O’Reilly Factor,” Kucinich said if he were president, he would not have had “USAID and the National Endowment for Democracy working with U.S. taxpayers’ money to knock off an elected government in Ukraine, which is what they did. I wouldn’t try to force the people of Ukraine into a deal with NATO against their interest or into a deal with the European Union, which is against their economic interest.” Kucinich sought the Democratic presidential nomination in 2004 and 2008. He was defeated for re-election in 2012 and now serves as Fox news analyst. The USAID is a federal agency that works to reduce poverty abroard while the National Endowment for Democracy is a non-profit foundation that works to promote democratic causes in the world. There is no evidence any U.S. agency was involved in the protests. Yanukovych, a strong ally of Russian President Vladimir Putin, fled Ukraine last month after his security forces shot as many as 100 people in the streets of Kiev. Much of Yanukovych’s support evaporated after he rejected a chance to associate with the European Union.
