Washington County, NC is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Water Treatment Plant Supervisor for its Waterworks Department. This position is responsible for overseeing the operations, maintenance and repair of the county’s water treatment plant including the laboratory. The position acts as Operator in Responsible Charge (ORC) for the water plant. The position is responsible for supervising personnel, safety compliance, training programs, preventative maintenance, and inventory management. The position is also responsible for all federal, state, and departmental compliance monitoring, reporting and record keeping. The position works independently under general supervision of the Public Utilities Director. Skills, Knowledge and Abilities • Thorough knowledge of policies and procedures pertaining to water plan operations. • Knowledge of federal mandates to ensure quality water is produced and maintained at all times. • Thorough knowledge of the occupational hazards and the proper safety precautions involved in plant operations • Considerable knowledge of the principles of supervision, organization and administration • General knowledge of mechanical, electrical and instrumentations dealing with water treatment plants • Solid analytical & problem solving skills • Skill in using common office machines, including popular computer-driven word processing, database, spreadsheet, file maintenance programs and computer maintenance management software • Strong written and verbal communication skills • Ability to anticipate and resolve issues • Ability to work independently to achieve results based on broad objectives established by the Public Utility Director as guidelines. Qualifications The successful applicant shall have a bachelor’s degree in biology, chemistry, environmental studies, or a related field and five to ten years of experience in performing the essential functions of this position, or an equivalent combination of education and experience to understand the basic principles relevant to the primary duties of the position (ORC and managerial experience preferred); possession of a B-Well Water Treatment Facility Operator Certification and Grade III Physical/ Chemical Wastewater Operator Certification. Possession of a valid North Carolina driver’s license is required.
