Washington Post writer tries to put a good spin on roller coaster - TopicsExpress

Washington Post writer tries to put a good spin on roller coaster safety, fails. 30,342 people went to the ER with roller coaster injuries in 2012. That’s a lot. But it’s less than a 10th of the number of people who are injured by their chairs, or tables, or cabinets or shelves. Flooring or floor materials caused 50 times more injuries. Toilets resulted in three times more emergency room trips than roller coasters. Dancing caused twice as many injuries. All of these things are way more common than roller coasters! In the grand scheme of things, roller coasters arent a major threat to public health, but comparing the injury rates for roller coasters and toilets is totally unilluminating. wapo.st/1lQLXWd
