Wasnt sure I was going to write about this, but I keep getting the inner urging....yesterday I found myself jumping into a conversation because I overheard an older man (likely in his 70s) say to a younger man that he needed to be a man and not a wimp, because he had mentioned that it had been chilly when he had left for work that morning. My comment was something like being tough isnt limited to men (since it felt that not only was he putting this man down, even in jest, but that being a man meant not being a woman). He looked over and said that he wouldnt want me in a foxhole with him. I responded that I was a pacifist and wouldnt be in a foxhole. He smirked and said Then I guess we are fighting for you. I told him that I knew women who were in the military by choice and who could fight side by side with men. He made another comment that peace is bad. and earlier on had remarked that what was happening in the Middle East was to be expected since it was predicted in the Bible. I told him that I didnt want to get into a pissing contest with him, but then afterward, I realized that I already had, by taking the bait, when I had invited myself in. I then muzzled myself and sent him thoughts of good will and compassion. Wars are not always fought with weaponry, but with thoughts and words. I had viewed this man as being so different than me, which is how we create enemies. Maybe we have more in common than I would like to believe.
