Wasting away the precious days and nights: Abdullah ibn `Amr Radiyallahu ‘anhu reported that the Messenger of Allah Sallallahu ‘alaihi wasallam, said: “The fast and the Qur’an are two intercessors for the servant of Allah on the Day of Resurrection. The fast will say: ‘O Lord, I prevented him from his food and desires during the day. Let me intercede for him. The Qur’an will say: ‘I prevented him from sleeping at night. Let me intercede for him.’ And their intercession will be accepted.”(Ahmad) Some people make fasting an excuse for not working and spend the day sleeping, watching movies, playing video games or doing no physical work. The month of Ramadan is about attaining the blessings of Allah. It is a month to rejuvenate the soul by reading and understanding the Qur’an, by praying voluntary prayers in addition to obligatory ones and doing deeds of charity.
