Watch: IRS Chief Reveals the REAL IRS Scandal, Rips Republican Hypocrites IRS Commissioner John Koskinen revealed the real scandal at the IRS during yesterday’s hearing on the investigation into the Republicans’ manufactured scandal over lost Lois Lerner emails. Responding to a question about the IRS’ financial resources, Koskinen explained that the IRS budget has been cut by more than $800 million in recent years, even though the number of taxpayers has increased by more than 7 million and their enforcement responsibilities have grown. Of course, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-Calif.) is nowhere to be found when it comes to investigating why Congress is underfunding the agency responsible for collecting revenue for the federal government. It is the same old story of Republican anti-government ideologues obstructing and underfunding government agencies, and then shamelessly criticizing their performance. “We are provided significant amounts of money, but significantly less than we need,” Koskinen said, explaining that the IRS budget is set to be cut by another $350 million in the next fiscal year. “Three-hundred-fifty million dollars in one fiscal year?” Rep. Gerald Connoly (D-Va.) asked with surprise. “Surely, that will change considering our deep and profound concerns for what happened to Lois Lerner’s hard drive.” “We have high hopes,” Koskinen quipped as laughter could be heard throughout the chamber.
