Watch a new interview with Khadija Ismayilova made in October before her arrest. Khadija is an independent investigative journalist in Azerbaijan, host on Radio Free Europe / Radio Liberty. From 2008 to 2010, she was the Baku Bureau Chief for Radio Azadliq, RFE/RLs Azerbaijani Service. Since the crackdown against civil society this summer she has been one of the only voices left to tell the rest of the world what is going on in Azerbaijan. The interview was recorded in October 2014 in Warsaw. Khadija came to the OSCE Human Dimension Implementation Meeting. Due to her critically speaking during the conference she was threatened by authorities with arrest upon arrival home. On 5 December 2014 Khadija Ismayilova was arrested and sentenced to two months of pre-trial detention on ludicrous charges of incitement to suicide.
