Watch a video summary of the ceremony where Landing Helicopter Dock (LHD), HMAS Canberra, was formally commissioned into service in the Royal Australian Navy on 28 November 2014. The tri-service 400-member crew, along with families and senior Defence Industry and Community representatives witnessed the Australian White Ensign broken and flown for the first time. Full ceremony, including a guard and band was afforded to mark this important moment in history. The guest of honour was the Governor General of Australia, His Excellency General the Honourable Sir Peter Cosgrove AK MC (Retd). Canberra is the first of two LHDs, the largest ships ever built for the Navy, the LHD will be able to conduct a range of roles including large scale amphibious operations and carry out humanitarian assistance and disaster relief missions.
