The collection contains 1.1 million (art) objects from and relating to the Netherlands from the Middle Ages until the 20th century. The completely renovated museum has opened its doors to the public and receives over two million visitors a year with a stunning building, surprising decor, beautiful exhibitions, lively events and many pleasant facilities for young and old. The Conservation Department, housed in the Atelier Building, aims to reach an internationally recognized position in the museum world, in which conservation, restoration and scientific research in collaboration with conservators and research scientists forms an essential part. The conservation Department of Metal is looking for a Watch and clock restorer on a project basis for a period of 5 years Function information The Rijksmuseum has an important collection of watches and clocks, representing all periods. You have the responsibility for this collection, and will create a conservation plan in close cooperation with both the Head of the Metal department and the responsible curator, and also set priorities for the preservation of the collection housed in the depot in Lelystad. The following tasks are expected of you: - Monitor the physical state of the collection, in order to recognize threats to the condition and take corrective preventive action; - Carry out conservation, restoration and associated research; - Collaborate in research related to the collection of clocks and watches with colleagues and / or scientific researchers. The results will be documented in writing and with images; - Provide contributions to the development of methods, techniques and ethical and aesthetic criteria for research and implementation of conservation treatments. Requirements • BA / MA or MSc in conservation, with a specialization in watches and clocks; • A broad knowledge of conservation/restoration methodology and ethics; • Knowledge of analytical methods useful for research on watches and clocks; • Experience in performing watch and clock restoration and documenting results; • Fluency in Dutch and English, spoken and written (if not Dutch is the official language, the candidate is expected to be willing to learn the Dutch language); • Social and communication skills; • Analytical and problem-solving skills; • Focus on development; • Service-oriented, flexible and stress-resistant. Terms of employment The conservator will be appointed on a project basis, for the period of five years. The feature is classified in group 10 and the salary, depending on qualifications and experience, min € 2800, - and max € 3663, - for a full working week of 36 hours, excluding 8% holiday allowance and year-end bonus.
