Watch as Pastor CA Murray sings My Faith Has Found A Resting Place at the 2013 3ABN campmeeting in the US. As we have mentioned, the second great revival began really in the late 1800s. This song My faith has found a resting place really comes from the end of that great 18th century, rather s of revival about the time of Dwight L. Moody when he was doing his work in Chicago. It is interesting that such a wonderful song is shrouded in controversy. The first controversy is authorship. Now depending on what hymnal you have, the authors name is different. In the Adventist hymnal the author is listed as Lidie H. Edmunds. But there is some very credible scholarship that says Lidie H. Edmunds never existed. That was just a pen name for the writer Eliza Edmunds Hewitt. So depending on what hymnal you have, youll have Lidie H. Edmunds or Eliza Edmunds Hewitt. Many believe that Edmunds was just a fictitious name. That happened many times for writers who wrote a lot. They use several different names and their publishers encourage them to do that so that you didnt get a lot of material from one writer but you got all of these different names. Thats controversy number one. Controversy number two is the music. The Adventist hymnal says Norwegian Melody. But if you get another hymnal or do a little research, it says that the melody was written by William Kirkpatrick of Pennsylvania. So its either a Norwegian Melody or William Kirkpatricks melody. And many times in the 1800s, popular tunes were sort of sanitized and given religious overtones. And controversy number three, depending on what hymnal you have, the song says I need no other argument or I need no other evidence. The Adventist hymnal says evidence, and since Im an Adventist Im using evidence. Now to be sure these are not great controversies, theyre just interesting little new answers on this hymn which is a great hymn of the church, which was written at the close of this great century of hymn writing, My faith has found a resting place. My faith has found a resting place Not in device nor creed I trust the Ever-living One That He for me shall plead I need no other evidence I need no other plea It is enough that Jesus died And rose again for me Enough for me that Jesus saves This ends my fear and doubt A sinful soul, I come to Him Hell not cast me out I need no other evidence I need no other plea It is enough that Jesus died And rose again for me The great Physician heals the sick The lost He came to save For me His precious blood He shed For me His life He gave I need no other evidence I need no other plea It is enough that Jesus died And rose again for me My soul is resting on the Word The living Word of God Salvation in my Saviors name Salvation thro His blood I need no other evidence I need no other plea It is enough that Jesus died And rose again for me. youtu.be/qnFmZDi-E9E
