Watch out... Sensibles on his soapbox again - this time as part of the Save The Brighton Hippodrome campaign. The Beatles and Stones played here back in the day.. before the place fell into disrepair and subsequently closed - and now new owners have plans to knock this lovely old place down to be replaced by a multiplex cinema - when Brightons full of the bloomin things. telegraph.co.uk/women/womens-life/11305159/Why-women-today-owe-a-great-debt-to-Mandy-Rice-Davies.html In the words of the fabulous Mandy Rice-Davis (RIP) I understand that as a jobbing muso I would say that wouldnt I when asking for these clubs and halls to be saved but I am more aware than most just how many we have actually lost since I first started touring. The Marquee was the most painful as I virtually lived in there in the late 70s. CBGBs is a scandal too... whichever local politician let that place close needs to be named and shamed. Does New York not want to be a mecca for rock n roll? The Glasgow Apollo, Edinburgh Picturehouse, Newcastle Mayflower, Hammersmith Palais (namechecked by Paul Gray in his Hit Or Miss song) and loads more memorable venues around the world are gone forever so although Ive never played here - as far as Im concerned the rot has to stop - with the Hippodrome hopefully being saved. The Damned gig list: whiterabbitskgs.co.uk/live.htm Oh, and among the supporters on a chilly sunday afternoon was Brightons Green MP Caroline Lucas who I had a nice chat with - and apart from talking a lot of sense on fracking, the economy, the NHS and... well just about everything I am pleased to be able to report is a very nice lady too. Blimey, if she carries on this way shell be getting politicians a good name..... carolinelucas/ ourhippodrome.org.uk/ https://facebook/Brighton.Hippodrome theargus.co.uk/news/11716670.Plans_for_new_multi_screen_Brighton_cinema_shelved_after_developer_makes_a_u_turn_on_use_for_historic_venue/?ref=mr
