You see the matrimonial ads in the newspaper today, and you will still find two most common words running through it “homely girl”. And, we say, we have evolved! The video ‘Wives and Wives’ was made in 60s (yes, we are repeating this, again!), showing how a modern man chooses his life partner by just looking at the pictures of the prospective brides. And, he uses those pictures to analyse their nature and characteristics, and judging who would make a perfect housewife for him. Ask men about what kind of person they are, and most of them will proudly say that they are modern men with open mind-set and views. But, when you ask them what they are looking for in their brides, majority of Indian men will have the same answer– a woman who can look after their family, house, and other household activities. Surely, most of you won’t be surprised when we say that a majority of Indian men have held the same thought since ages. But, nothing could have made it more pronounced than this video from 60s that we chanced upon. This video shows how a groom chooses his bride, or rather a ‘housewife’. What will surprise you is that the psyche and the criteria somehow still remain the same. Some things hardly change! Perfect Bride = Perfect Housewife Will she be a wise shopper, will she look after the house, how many kids would she want to have, and whether she will be saving types or the one who burns holes in the pocket, are some of the criteria his mind seems to circle around as he tries to find his bride-to-be. It is moving to see a young man so confused with options that he just envisions his life with both, in attempts to decide who will make a perfect housewife for him (all the pun intended!).
