Watch video here: what are your thoughts about this? Sen. Bongbong Marcos is strongest NP bet in 2016, says analyst Posted at 12/03/2014 11:22 PM MANILA - Among all the members of the Nacionalista Party (NP), Senator Ferdinand Bongbong Marcos Jr. is the strongest possible contender for the 2016 presidential elections, according to political analyst Prospero de Vera. De Vera, vice president for public affairs of the University of the Philippines (UP), said Marcos is stronger than the two other NP members -- Senators Antonio Trillanes IV and Alan Peter Cayetano -- who have expressed intention to run for president. He said Marcos, son and namesake of the late dictator Ferdinand Marcos, is relatively more aggressive than the two other senators in terms of going around the country and reaching out to the people. He said Trillanes and Cayetano have only been visible in the Senate Blue Ribbon subcommittee, which is investigating allegations of corruption against Vice President Jejomar Binay. University of Santo Tomas (UST) political science professor Edmund Tayao added that the two senators do not even seem to benefit from their attacks against the vice president. Are their numbers going up? Not really, he said. According to Tayao, if there will be four or five candidates in the 2016 elections, Marcos has a high chance of winning the presidency because of his familys Ilocos Norte bailiwick. Dr. Grace Gorospe-Jamon of the UP political science department, meanwhile, said she has asked people close to Marcos about the senators plan for 2016. She said they told him that Marcos is about 85 percent decided to run for president. But that may still change, Jamon said.
