Watched 12 Years a Slave last night. It was a real struggle for me to sit and witness how cruel man can get, even in the name of God. It was but 120 years ago that this kind of behavior was tolerated, even celebrated in the United States of America. My dad is 82, so it doesnt seem like that long ago. The things we can twist the word of God into so that we can justify our behavior is unbelievable. I wouldnt recommend this movie for the faint of heart, but sometimes its good to remember where we were. While I was watching the movie I thought of Israel in slavery in Egypt and Joseph in slavery. Not pretty pictures when their conditions are put on the big screen. To know that our founding fathers participated in these kinds of behaviors puts another twist on things for me. What are the evil things that Im not seeing in my culture that 120 years of history will shed light on?
