Watched Dallas Buyers Club last night. It won 2 acting Oscars (Matthew McConaughey in the lead role and Jared Leto in the supporting role). There was nothing pleasant or enjoyable about this movie. It was rauncy and full of unsavory characters. This may sound strange, but I thought Jennifer Garner was too pretty to play the role of the doctor. They should have made her look less Hollywood and more ordinary. There are a couple of scenes when she is at meetings with other doctors and hospital administrators and as a viewer I look around the board table and think yup, doctors, administrators...hey wait- what is that Hollywood actress doing there? I do think McConaughey was adept in his role. He made a thoroughly despicable character actually sympathetic. I also liked how it showed that through some understanding, prejudice behavior (if not attitude) can change. Leto was also convincing in his role. I have to see the rest of the films that were nominated in these categories before deciding, but I do appreciate the talent that was shown here.
