Watched The Hunger Games : Mockingjay - Part 1. The biggest - TopicsExpress

Watched The Hunger Games : Mockingjay - Part 1. The biggest problem with this movie is that its a part one in the first place. Its story feels like its just stalling for Part 2, as there are scenes that meander way too much, and the strong momentum from the previous movie feels stunted. This is honestly a two hours film that probably could have been done in just around an hour. Not even the few action pieces were that great to warrant the running time. Thankfully Jennifer Lawrence is still good in her role as Katniss Everdeen, although I think the strength of her character has been compromised by the writing for this movie. Theres just a lot of nonsensical moments that just ruins the overall dark and important tone the movie clearly wants to have. Its just hard to take the movie seriously when the incredulous plot points happen, and the story starts feeling like a fairy tale. Any kind of ambitious storytelling here was just too compromised to be successfully told well. All this negativity is unfortunate, because I rather found the propaganda puppet figure-head aspect in the story to be rather interesting. I just wish I actually cared about everything else. Considering my overall disappointment with The Hunger Games : Mockingjay - Part 1, I question whether I should even bother watching Part 2; even its just to finish the story. I think hardcore fans will love it anyway, but I thought it was a big giant MEH.
