Watched The Woman in Black 2. A significant step down in quality - TopicsExpress

Watched The Woman in Black 2. A significant step down in quality from its genuinely eerie and oppressively atmospheric predecessor. It also suffers from the absence of Daniel Radcliffe. The cinematography is visually sumptuous however, and it does have a few nice moments of fog-drenched atmosphere, and old-fashioned suspense. Those moments are too few in number, unfortunately, and the movie gets really silly, especially once it reaches its climax. It also settles for a lot of repetitive jump scares of the false alarm variety. The ghostly villainess of the title is indeed quite creepy, but is not utilized all that effectively. Certainly not terrible, like a vast majority of horror films released in January. But also nothing really special or worth seeking out.
