Watched an interesting episode of Family Confidential on ABC last night - all about R.M. Williams and his large family. Classic *rags to riches* story. The images of the tent that he lived in when he made his first elastic-side boots juxtaposed with the later images of fine mansions and motorcars were quite startling. He was an innovative man and the program focussed on that and the strong connections that remain amongst his ten children. I was hoping they would mention the book he wrote and published in 1944 The Bushmans Handcrafts. Reginald Murray Williams wrote it to help preserve the bush skill of leather craft. The Bushmans Handcrafts provides a step-by-step guide to whip making, belt plaiting, lacing and carving. A slim volume, bound in soft leather. Nice little piece of Australiana. And yes, we have a first edition.
