Watched in PVR CINEMAS and Abirami Mega Mall, Kochadaiyaan- The Prequel of Raana A kind request to all those who had their statuses state SuperStar Returns- “please rephrase your status”. To return- He should have left at first place, He never did & never Will. It’s time to celebrate the beginning of immortal SuperStar and The Game Changer - Kochadaiiyan. * Hows the movie? Sheer mass- perfect package with ‘fast-paced screenplay, massy one-liners, many spectacular moments of SuperStar’s presence, Dialogues and yes, of-course the sound score of ARR is a major plus on the whole. * Narrow down your explanations, this is an animation movie- how do you justify that it is up to the mark? Of course not, but it is a negotiable bargain. Ill explain it later, Read ahead. The anime work isnt that much bad. It never ruined the screenplay pace and make much of a smooth move, thats the point. * Worth the Penny? One time watch? Nope, its definitely worth more than your penny spent and a promised repeat watch, as far as animation isnt your major concern, compared to the work of Ravikumar and Screen presence of Rajinikanth. *2D or 3D? My personal choice would be 3D, the film is crafted in such a way keeping 3D technology in mind and the visuals are much good in 3D compared to 2D(3D theatres which compliments Pain-in-the-eyes and Headache is not recommended, in that case 2D is a better choice). *All queries cleared, get to your Explain Later part? Ok, here you go. This will take long time to read,so pay attention to save up your time in a onetime read. Animation is a genre, where impossible can be made possible with a minimal budget when compared to the budget of a real-time project for the same content. Still the investment for a animated project will be higher and is based on the trade analysis- market value and mainly on the global reach for the film. Even Hollywood never takes risk by investing much on newly originating animated flicks. (e.g) Ice Age Quadrilogy- the first flick in such series will always have average animation when compared to its sequels. Kung fu panda, Toy Story, Madagascar were other few examples. The reach of the franchise to the global audience, paves the doorway for larger investments to the sequels. On the other side lie animations made out of fairy tales and already famous comical characters. These flicks will see huge budgets even at its first in series, cos they already have a huge attention count among global audience. Let us come back to our industry. Rajini is a Globalised Brand who always sets his mark in BO and global reach. He is the first person to make a film over 100Cr budget and made the grossing possible for such a whopping budget. Now many projects were on-line of 100Cr budgets. He always stands out as a starting point in shattering so called trade margins of Indian Cinema. I was expecting two movies for a long time, that will be the game changers of our industry and the most important flick among them was Sultan-the warrior, I strongly believed that SuperStar has the magic and charisma to make a BO record in the genre paving way for more products in animation genre, and will also get a lot of Indian audience to it. I think he has done it big time now with Kochadaiyaan. The quality of performance capture and animation. Yes, it isnt up to the mark as of now. There aint much life in the facial expressions especially the eyes, but Rajinis screen model is an exception. It’s been worked a lot and is evident on screen. But now the film is having a promising start and is grabbing a huge count of global audience too. Also it’s clear that the film is going to see sequels and franchising is gonna work big time. As of now, the film is getting so much of positive reviews, except for the lag in animation. So we can be assured that from the consecutive release in the series, the animation will be improved gradually to a better extent which we havent ever ‘thought of’ to reach in a short period. Still there were many hurdles in Trade like the Hollywood animated flicks will have business not only through Theatrical, Satellite, DVD/BluRay rights, but also through many patented products like Toys, Accessories used etc., Also they have their own Studio to develop such animations which will reduce the production costs to a bigger extent. Fanatics- Brace yourself to celebrate the Immortal and the Game Changer. Note: PVR had a two minute making video, prior to the Feature Presentation and the words of Amithabh Bachan in it is: “Indian cinema is going to get divided into two periods and that is Before Kochadaiyaan and After Kochadaiyaan”
