Watched some of the fog movie over the weekend, love ocean movies especially the shore lines craggy rock coast in somemovies.Since my ancestors were on ships and captains.Like the newest fog movie though old one has its moments mainly the mysterious atmosphere of the fog bank in it. Kind of like the stories they have in some books about folklores and stories of the illuminescence glow in low lying areas florescence swamp gas a simple scientific explaination for it. The unexplained in stories example the glow said to be once in mobile area and when got to where it glowed nothing lightable was there simliar things have been reported in some areas of texas. Bermuda is another old sight for ships and shores as so many have been lost on its reefs during storms. A few ships off coast have been found over the years of interest one is the atocha one of the best finds another is tristan de lunas lost ships found at pensacola which dont think nothing but hull was found on it. In 1500s think it was hurricane hit florida and tristan de luna whom was on expedition like hernando de soto lost several ships think it was in hurricane back then only one I know has been found and doubtful if it had anything of value on board . Another wreck is that of edward teach off the carolinas which in its salvage find wasnt much of anything even though he was one of the most famous pirates in 1700 history. Titanic interest me and its people and things found as interest in archaeology though the empress of ireland think name of it lost more lives on that ship . the rose ship of henry 8th is some interest but I mainly prefer the 1600-1700 time frame and mainly spainish ships that have been lost at sea. Dont know if the finder of the atocha found his other spainish ship might look and see. The Treasurer is another ship that interest me from 1600 which was ship of robert rich second earl of warwick a privateer and assume the same one whom carried rebecca rolfe back to jamestown before she married john rolfe, could be wrong though. The Jewiss is an alabama ship lost which is now probably hull rusting if even that lost in our state in 1800s, the staples is in its river as well one of the noted steam boats. The Patriot is one Lost I think in relation to theodosia, daughter of burr and one of the historical mysteries of not only the east coast but also of the south. Theodosia getting on ship patriot it a former privateer but refitted for non military sailing even though think it was sailing into dangerous waters as the british were off the coast of the carolinas and her being the daughter of aaron burr was also a noted item she gets on ship and is never seen again in 1800s. Various accounts surfaced in the east coast to texas and the alabama lore accounts on what happened to her. One such note was by a guy named phillip the pirate in our local history, the acts of piracy in 1800s were not the dashing image of those of the 1600-1700 era as the 1800 pirates were more like men half starved on ship with littel to show for their efforts these were some off the coast of texas and it is assumed by myself that phillip was once one of those off that coast perhaps that helped in the louisiana efforts as think he may have been one of the pardoned and then went his way and ended up in our county and his account could have been passed down rumor or he could have been on ship that theodosia was on . In book they have his account on death bed that theodosia walked plank into atlantic was one explanation of her mystery, there have been several other accounts and then again this could have been fabrication but why would a man on death bed in 1800s tell such story if didnt have some basis for truth. Other historical buffs have some explanations. Rich in his lifetime had many privateer ships as once he was admiral of british navy back in 1600s some of his ships privateering were considered acts of piracy. Rich was co owner think with lord del a war back then and lord dela war kept those at jamestown virginia from returning to england so kind of historical importance especially when read of captain daniel elfrith and reports that richs ships put the english colony at risk from enemies of england at that time in south america or about there. Would love to read the manifest of those ships back then especially if teachs had some. Teach an old privateer of england probably bristol where most ships sailed out from england to where ever after queen annes war privateers left with not much to do turn to piracy such as teach did taking ships off of the carolina and virginia coast and cominga ashore dont know if he effected the santee river colony of the hughuenots but could be since his seizure blockade of charleston harbor back then just after my great great grandfather and grand mother so many back left that area. If they would have stayed then teachs blockade might have effected their lives but assuredly did effect the lives my ancestors friends left at santee I assume. Could be wrong though. Be so much easier if every person from 1600 to 1800 kept a diary or journal but not all did as paper was of some value and not used as it is today and letters were of importance if written. Just thoughts love shoreline.
