Watching American Hustle is a lot like watching a little boy who - TopicsExpress

Watching American Hustle is a lot like watching a little boy who discovered his fathers shoes somewhere and decided to do an impersonation for his parents. One shoe is a Martin Scorsese movie about unlikable, unscrupulous people who make their way through 70s excess (with narration right out of the Ray Liotta school of exposition) and the other is a Coen brothers dark comedy. Neither shoe really fits very well and while the performance may stand on its own two feet, its precariously close to crashing down the entire time. Its cute at times but goes on for a little too long kinda just repeating the same thing over and over. In fact, if anything is keeping it upright, its Christian Bales uncanny ability to be amazing in absolutely anything. But, like the kid in his dads shoes, the film ultimately strives for much more than it achieves.
