Watching Byron Haskins classic 1953 movie adaptation of H.G Wells - TopicsExpress

Watching Byron Haskins classic 1953 movie adaptation of H.G Wells The War of the Worlds. Even though its far from faithful to Wells novel - to my mind the greatest Science Fiction novel - mainly as it isnt set in Victorian England, its still superb for its time and Ive loved it since childhood. I enjoyed the late 80s Canadian tv series and the Spielberg movie of 2005 was pretty impressive in parts. Ive never seen Thomas Hines two straight-to-dvd period versions from 2005 and 2012 or David Michael Latts updated 2005 version and its C. Thomas Howell-directed sequel from 2008, none of which seem to have been very favourably reviewed. I long to see a faithful adaptation of the novel, with a decent budget and some imagination. The BBC can certainly do justice to Austen, Dickens and the Brontës. Surely Wells - as our greatest pioneer of Science Fiction - deserves the same reverential treatment?
