Watching Representative Tom Rice on CSPAN explain his participation in coming up with a lawsuit against the President in his deep southern drawl, trying to convince Americans that the President has no executive authority to decide when to implement a tax that had been passed by Congress. Unfortunately, the format on CSPAN never allows the host to directly challenge the guest. I would be a terrible CSPAN host. I would be itching to challenge the guests and squirming in my seat with my annoyance about their hack efforts to con the public. Rep. Rice seems to serious and sincere that I cant tell if he really believes what hes saying or if hes outright lying. He seems to be an educated man, however, so I have to assume that hes just lying. All that needs to be said is that the President takes an oath to uphold and to defend the laws of the United States, and the near-term schedule for implementation of any new law (even a tax) in order to ensure that any law can be sustainable and executive orders carried out to ensure that laws are properly upheld is simply the job of the executive. Congress suffers no harm whatsoever after the President determines that the Affordable Care Act will be successfully implemented only if the requirements for certain businesses to engage in providing access to health insurance is delayed for a year. The attempt by the Republicans, of course, is to try to ensure that a new law they had opposed cannot be implemented on a workable schedule that avoids disruptions that could make the law fall apart. Thats their idea of doing their job, but this President has simply adhered to his oath of office. Its a little hard to listen to arguments otherwise that sound as if they are spoken by some goober from one of those 1960s rural sitcoms.
