Watching SYTYCD tonight (again) and I was a little caught off guard when Nigel announced Ricky as a Young Arts Presidential Scholarship Winner. As a dance teacher who has had a tap dancer in the Young Arts Program, I followed this amazing program this year when I heard that Connor Yockus was going to be a recipient of this amazing scholarship! I had the honor of teaching this dancer this year and he was absolutely thrilled just to have been nominated! He comes from an amazing dance school in Florida under the direction of Suzanne DiVasto Citere, and is probably the MOST prestigious recognition a student in the Arts can receive, as its given at the White House and only awarded to 20 students in the United States out of over 11,000 applicants! Connor was just one of TWO dancers to receive this honor! Im sure he was caught off guard, on national TV, but Im sure he would never want to take anything away from the actual recipients of the award! As we all know, Ricky is my Favorite and he is an incredible dancer, with amazing teachers as well! Here is a link to the incredible kids that received the Presidential Scholarship this year!
