Watching Season 7 of the new Doctor Who firms my conviction that New Who is crippled by its 40-minute format. Thats just not enough time to do much for a show that essentially reinvents itself EVERY EPISODE -- traveling throughout time and space. I believe this is a major reason why New Who focuses so much on the stories of the companions, and keeps returning to the same characters and locations. The show is trying to work around one of its own premises! The problems been brought into sharp focus by Season 7s collection of wonderful guest stars who criminally have nothing to do. The format reduces their appearances to stunt casting. :(
