Watching The Pearl Tri in real time is awesome and it really caught my attention I actually envied the guys who swim that long in OPEN water, pounded their bike and can still run. Then I decided to join this awesome FIT-Q group I already knew some members Mendel Dela Cuesta Adrian Joseph Farrales,. Swim..yes I can swim no problemo, some of my FitQ mates were telling me hey you know how to swim but it is “langoy ilog” it is like sticking my head out in the water turning it left and right and just crawling..,, Jeyson Espino Baculao Din Din Din corrected it in one of our pool sessions hahah it is embarrassing at first they ask me to swim not in the water only by the poolside. Riding a bike,.. how im going to do this kind of sport if I don’t know how to handle race bike/TT bikes no idea of the difference between the two, I started practicing and again no clue of gearing, cleats all I had is my running shoes coach Bernard just told me start with good cadence, set the target to 30KPH and increase my mileage,,.dunno what it means. Running- definitely I can run, from 5K races I went straight conquering two International full 42 K marathon races and one half in between, only that im on my heavyset frame,,fat wrestler on a running shorts. Doing these 3 disciplines will require me to practice a lot and realize the numbers that I am pursuing, the time away from my wife(yehey!!) she took care of my diet nilagang saba at sopas, finances, my weight and most of all I have to stop smoking and drinking. Dubai international Triathlon Race day 1.9K Swim 90K Bike 21K Run Target Time to Complete the race as per coach is 5 hours and 30 mins (im thinking all I need is Sub 6 or 5:55 it is my first time for god sake) SWIM-Long walk to the beach barefoot, along the way we saw the 2x Triathlon world champ Chris Macca, fortunate and lucky that I will be on the first wave of swimmer with him and the PRO-Triathletes, unfortunate since it is obvious we cannot even catch up with his bubbles. Gun start @ 0630Am off we swam the cold water of Atlantis Beach, I am not going to beat up myself just steady strokes seems impossible to do every time we pass the bouy choke points everyone is pushing kicking, swinging I just simply return all of those back unintentionally and in 40min beachhead 200mtrs away to T1. BIKE LEG-Helmet on, shades, bib number, sockless bike shoes, praying that I will have my DuraAce legs today. Tried to take it easy goin out of Atlantis didn’t happen Garmin recorded 206KPH riding down towards the Tunnel, yes im riding my bike not my Dodge Charger. Out of the Palm towards the motor city was easy, and coming back wohoo I got what I wish the day before give us a strong wind ( I keep on saying my wish to my two FitQ mates Jeff and Irondez hehe)..embraced the strong, deafening headwind + cross to where only the fittest legs will survive so we did. Coming back to Atlantis is shocking, down to the tunnel in high speed flying over the never ending mini speed humps, hundreds of them in 1.5 meter apart all you can hear is like a machine gun firing buf buf buf I have my fingers ready on the brakes though I knew it wont work..climbing up out of the tunnel is another shock to me as it was steep and the speed humps were slowing me down..another breath I said and I need to finish strong since im still racing head to head against one of the FIT UAE finest rider Jomax. Completed the bike leg in 2 hours 45 minutes at an average of 36.7 KPH. (thanks to FIT -UAE warm support and cold beer) 21K RUN- Started with the smile I can feel my legs are still attached heheh after that gruelling bike leg. Set my marathon mode started picking up speed only stopping @ support station to hydrate and yes a lot of sponge bath to cool down and in one point i have to Peee,,trisuit zip is in the back! made a run to corniche bush oh yeah right on my trisuit and wet my left shoes :-) I just smiled to every one passing by,,good job they said! Completed the run in 2 hours few seconds shy of Sub 2 category. Clocked 5:30:+secs- set Personal Best in my very first Triathlon 70.3 race Thanks to my training buddies hardcore jeffreyVergara Rondez Anthony Running mates Mel Laig Arman Agustin Domingo Newbie like me Jaynald Canaria Bike coaches Grant Ang Allan Sn Diego And of course The Pusher Phoebe Bernard Pingol hope to continue nailing your wishes :-)
