Watching The Roosevelts on PBS last night, I listened to the story - TopicsExpress

Watching The Roosevelts on PBS last night, I listened to the story of Teddy Roosevelts father saying to him to base his decisions on morality. Teddy intervened in an early turn-of-the-century coal strike. Despite people freezing, a southern democrat protested that his involvement was unconstitutional. Teddy replied, The constitution exists for the people, not the people for the constitution! Amen. The constitution is an imperfect document written by imperfect human beings at a particular point in time. It is a history changing institution, much of which was written by men that were not Christians. It was not meant to be abused by selfish individuals at the expense of other American countrymen and women. Thank you, Mr. Roosevelt.
